Lady Gaga — Pop Music Star and Anti-Bullying Activist
In early December, pop music star Lady Gaga, known for her famous songs like “Bad Romance” and “Born This Way,” has started a new chapter in her career — acting as an anti-bullying activist. Lady Gaga announced that she would help support and create a nonprofit organization known as “Born This Way.”
Working with Harvard’s Berkman Center for the Internet Society, this foundation (based off of one of Lady Gaga’s most popular songs) will help students across the country learn to support one another, stop bullying, and “help put an end to bullying,” says Educationnews.org.
Make Bullying a Real Hate Crime — to Save Children’s Lives
The Grammy Winner Lady Gaga has moved from wild singer to student rights activist through this great program. Having experienced the death of many students from bullying across the nation, including students like Jamie who tragically killed themselves after being bullied for their sexual orientation, Lady Gaga wants to make bullying a hate crime to help save student lives.
Through the “Born This Way” organization with Harvard’s prestigious Berkman Center, the pop music star hopes to make a positive difference in the lives of those who are bullied. In fact, Harvard University in particular is even creating entire courses and classes devoted to exploring Lady Gaga’s beliefs and writing about topics Lady Gaga supports. From “Queer Studies” to other Gaga based writing classes, these new classes may begin with students creating final exams and papers about Lady Gaga herself and the positive messages she supports.
Lady Gaga Helps Teens Stay Bully Free and Happy to be “Born This Way”
From young children to high school students, bullying truly is something that must be stopped. Regardless of race, gender, looks, beliefs, likes, dislikes, or sexual orientation, bullying should not be tolerated in schools today. As Lady Gaga has gone on to say that she used to be bullied when she was younger, she knows firsthand how painful and harmful bullying can be. While bullying may result in physical harm to oneself, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" program will fight against both emotional and physical bullying.
Hopefully with the leadership of influential figures like Lady Gaga supporting the cause to stop bullying (even going so far as to petition it to be labeled as a “hate crime”), student lives now and in the future can be saved. As a pop music star, fashion icon, and now an anti-bullying activist, Lady Gaga certainly continues to be influencing the youth of America with her ideals of acceptance.
