It's not always easy to accept if you're getting sick, but here are some helpful hints to let you know if you've caught a cold.

That feeling you get when you think you’re getting sick is never a good one. Though some people may try to ignore it and wish it away, that is sometimes the worst possible thing to do — you just might find out your little cold is actually a full-blown flu. Across the world, it is widely agreed that for those who think they are feeling under the weather, it is much better to call in sick than come to work coughing or sneezing everywhere. Use some of these hints and tips to let you know if today’s one of those days you need to call in sick and take the time to take care of that cold you caught.

Lack of Energy

One of the first signs in which your body tells you that you’re getting sick is when you feel tired, weak, and with a low energy level. If you feel a terrible headache coming on or a persistent sense of nausea, they may be marks that you’re not up to par. Getting sick often results in a lack of energy because the body’s immune system is trying to fight any bacteria or viruses in the body.

A High Temperature

A high temperature is another classic sign of how to know if you’re not feeling well. When you have a fever, it is often the body trying to use heat to kill off any bacteria that are causing the cold. An easy way of checking if you have a high temperature is to place your palm on your forehead, noting either clammy sweat or a feverish burning. Use can also use a thermometer for a more accurate check as well — anything significantly higher than the standard 98.6 degrees indicate you may be getting sick with a fever.

Swollen Neck Glands

Lastly, another sign to see if you are getting sick is to feel the glands on your neck, just beneath the jawbone. These glands act as important toxin releasers, flushing out unhealthy chemicals from the body, including those bacteria that may be making you feel under the weather. When these glands feel swollen or painful to the touch, they are likely agitated trying to fight any viruses in the body. If you have a sore or scratchy throat and it hurts to swallow too, this may be yet another mark that you’re getting sick and should call off work.

If you seem to feel most or all of the above hints, it is likely that you’re getting sick. Oftentimes such symptoms above are the telltale signs of just a cold; however, if you feel them persist over a long period of time, you may want to see your doctor. With some sleep, perhaps some cold medicine, and a needed bed rest, you’ll soon not only be able to tell that you’re through getting sick, but are on the mend as well.
